Defense against a front choke
- Step back into cat stance (to pull the opponent forward slightly, compromising their balance) with a kakiwake-uke to break their hold.
- Front kick to the groin, as an atemi.
- Step in, and grab wrap your hands around the opponent’s neck, pulling them down into a knee kick to the face.
- Intermediate and advanced students can include a bonus double tate-shutō, quickly striking both sides of the neck as you reach in for the grab.
