[Video of this waza fast and slow, from the side, and ideally, overhead]

Defense against a pursuit punch

  • Step your same-side foot straight back into a full-side-facing with an opposite-side inside shutō block.
  • Perform a simultaneous (Kūsankū) same-side grasping block to the opponent’s wrist and a makikomi-shutō to the side of their neck.
  • Neck circle takedown, and follow-up with a stomp kick to their floating ribs.
