[Video of this waza fast and slow, from the side, and ideally, overhead]

Defense against a downward stab

  • 7-3 inside with a same-side rising block to the opponent’s wrists or elbow.
  • Twist inside, sliding your blocking hand down the opponent’s arm, into a wrist grab. Wrap your free arm under the opponent’s elbow, grabbing their forearm, taking control of the knife with a standing arm bar.
  • Takedown opponent with tai-otoshi.
