Defense against a pursuit punch

  • 7-3 inside, and strike the opponent's same-side ear with a cupped hand
    • Your incoming strike will act as a wedge and/or chūdan-uke).
    • Be sure to exhibit extreme control when practicing this technique. These "bear paw strikes" (kumade uchi) compress the ambient atmosphere in the ear canal, and rupture your partner's eardrums. (This is their only use).
  • Rapidly perform another kumade uchi to the other ear, a reverse punch to the groin, and an uppercut to the chin or philtrum.
