[Video of this waza fast and slow, from the side, and ideally, overhead]
Defense against a front choke
- Step back into cat stance to pull the opponent slightly forward to compromising their balance, and break their grip with a kakiwake uke.
- Front kick the opponent's groin, as an atemi.
- Step forward and wrap your hands around the opponent’s neck, pulling them down into a knee kick to the chin.
- Intermediate students and advanced students can include a bonus double tate-shutō strikes to both sides of their neck as you reach in for the neck grab.
