Gokyū
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to earn the rank of Gokyū (4th class), which is expressed by wearing a blue belt.
There is no time-in-rank requirement, but 12-16 months of total training time is typically needed to reach this level.

- Soto
- Naka
- Kyū
- Dan
- Karateka
- Ki
- Kime
- Dō
- Stances
- Evasions
- Blocks

- Manipulations and Takedowns
- Terminology
- Perform the required kata (Ugoku ni Roku Hō, Yonaka).
- Perform 30 self-defense techniques.
- Demonstrate ability in kumite.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all previous qualifications.

- Blocks
- Punches
- Strikes
- Kicks
- Striking Point
- Kokutō
- Manipulations and Takedowns
- Perform the required kata (Murasaki, Nihon no Bōkata).
- Demonstrate and explain the different forms of breath control (Ibuki, Nogare).
- Perform 40 self-defense techniques.
- Demonstrate ability in kumite.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all previous qualifications.
