Gokyū

Qualifications for Gokyū (5th class; Blue Belt)

There is no time-in-rank requirement, but 12-16 months of total training time is typically needed to reach this level.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the required terminology, techniques, and
  2. Perform the required kata (Ugoku ni Roku Hō, Yonaka).
  3. Perform 30 self-defense techniques.
  4. Demonstrate ability in kumite.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of all previous qualifications.

Yonkyū

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to earn the rank of Yonkyū (4th class), which is expressed by wearing a purple belt.

There is no time-in-rank requirement, but 15-24 months of total training time is typically needed to reach this level.

This is typically achieved after 20-24 months of total training time.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the required terminology and techniques,
  2. Perform the required kata (Murasaki, Nihon no Bōkata).
  3. Demonstrate and explain the different forms of breath control.
  4. Perform 40 self-defense techniques.
  5. Demonstrate ability in kumite.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of all previous qualifications.
