Drop kick

Drop kick is “sacrifice technique,” because it requires giving up your stance and fall to the floor. While we generally discourage doing something this, there are unusual circumstances (e.g., a surprise baseball bat swinging at your head) which require an emergency evasion with a built-in counterattack.
Drop kicks are essentially a jump side kick and a side breakfall performed simultaneously. The directions below are for left drop kicks; changing the directions for a right drop kick is an exercise left for the reader.
- Origin. Start in a left fighting stance facing #1.
- Swing and spin. Twist your upper body to #6, and swing your hips in a Shakira-like motion towards your opponent at #2. Pull your right leg up into a left cat-like stance, except that your legs will be crossed, like you’re waiting in a line to use the toilet.
- Kick. Without pausing, immediately swing your fully-extended leg up and out, allowing momentum to carry your heel into your intended target at #1. Just as marksmen lead their targets, spinning karateka must trail their targets.
- Recovery. # Allow momentum to carry you back into a left fighting stance facing #1.
